Capability
I have developed strong commercial and legal acumen working as a corporate and commercial lawyer in private practice and in in-house roles for more than 25 years. I believe the key to adding value as an in-house counsel is understanding people and their skills from all areas of a business as well as getting to know the business.  I am always interested in what people do in their roles and I make a point of exploring each person’s viewpoint and desired outcome in relation to a transaction or project. An in-house counsel should be seen as a key advisor using their skills to achieve the best possible commercial and legal position for the business, not “the road block”. For the last 12 years, I have been Senior Legal Counsel at Kordia Limited, a New Zealand State Owned Enterprise, whose wide range of businesses include the provision of business telecommunications, cyber security and broadcasting services as well as the provision of critical network infrastructure solutions in New Zealand and Australia. In my role, I provided all sectors of the New Zealand business with legal advice across a wide range of commercial and regulatory issues.
