Staff insight: Jenine Briggs

We're always keen to check in with our team members and explore what they enjoy about being in the Juno team and what they think makes a great engagement. This month we share Jenine Briggs' experience. We were lucky to welcome Jenine Briggs to the Juno team based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland in 2019. She has had the pleasure of supporting the legal teams at Foodstuffs, Oji Fibre Holdings, Vital, New Zealand Superfund, Southern Cross Health Society, and Certus Insurance Brokers, in a balance of remote and office-based engagements.

What first attracted you to the flexible work that Juno offers, and can you tell us about your favourite part of the job?

The opportunity to work with high-calibre clients within a variety of different industries was hugely appealing. What attracted me to Juno specifically was that, as an organisation, it "walks the talk" in terms of working flexibly in a humanly authentic way.

My favourite part of the job is helping clients solve a problem or providing them with a solution which makes a process easy. I think as in-house legal counsel, one of the key challenges is to create or identify different options and I really enjoy the creative solution aspect of the job.

Did you have any reservations about making that change and how did you overcome them?

I love the Juno model. I think it offers such a great solution for both businesses and lawyers alike so I had very little reservations in making the move - it's an exciting, ever evolving organisation to be part of.

As an in-house lawyer, what's the best advice you've been given, and how has it helped you?

The best advice I received was pretty early on in my move to in-house, which was to remember to take my time if I needed to rather than rushing to send out advice, particularly in situations where it was of real importance to the business. Sleep on it, in other words! I've used this advice so many times - I've often drafted an email, left it and looked at it again in the morning with fresh eyes - I've found this advice to be valuable. It has helped me more times than I can count.

Can you tell us what makes a great Juno engagement for you and the client, particularly from a remote-engagement perspective?

I really enjoy meeting new people and developing new connections. I thoroughly enjoy learning about different businesses within a diverse range of industries. I have been so fortunate to have worked with some awesome clients since I've been at Juno. The people I have met and have had the opportunity to work with really stand out to me - that makes a great Juno engagement for me. Luckily with Microsoft Teams and other platforms, even if you're working remotely, you still get the ability to engage with people in a direct way.
