Capability

I've been a lawyer my whole career, with 20 or so years in-house. When I was in private practice I specialised as a commercial litigator, a very general kind of specialisation that gave me many fascinating insights into different industries and great exposure to different legal and commercial issues. My in-house experience has been primarily in the financial services sector, but in my last role before I joined Juno, as General Counsel of AMP Wealth Management New Zealand, I had very broad, pan-business accountabilities, and served as a director on the boards of four of AMP's New Zealand subsidiaries, which gave me very strong, transferable skills that can add value in any sector.

I am a  pragmatist and a troubleshooter, with a keen eye for risk and reward, and a healthy appetite for informed legal and commercial risk-taking. I have worked at both ends of the retail and wholesale spectrum, and many points in between, and can quickly attune myself to a client's legal and commercial drivers and imperatives, helping to find and deliver value regardless of whether the client is facing headwinds or tailwinds from a business perspective. As well as both contentious and non-contentious legal skills, I have strong experience in the areas of risk, compliance, governance, conduct/culture, ESG and customer complaints.

Going in-house was the best decision I've ever made. I've loved the in-house environment the whole way through. It's by far the best place for me to make use of my skills, and I relish the challenges and the variety that in-house roles serve up.
