What most attracted you to the flexible work model that Juno offers, and what's your favourite part of being on the Juno team?
I’m very privileged to call Queenstown home, and Juno allows me to do interesting work in different parts of the country remotely. Also, my husband and I have family and friends in different parts of the world, and Juno offers me the flexibility to work while spending time with our loved ones elsewhere (even if sometimes this means attending meetings at unconventional times). While remote, I never feel alone or unsupported, as HQ and my Juno colleagues are only a Teams message away when I need support from them.
How do you adapt your approach when working with clients from different industries or sectors?
Like many Brazilians, I love music (and a good party), and having lived, worked and studied in diverse countries and cultures, and across different industries, I learnt how to dance according to whatever music is being played at a party, while always remaining true to my values. Some clients can be slow paced and value accuracy, while others are more agile and value their lawyers being commercial. Some clients want me to “focus on getting things done”, while others want me to be a more active team member and contribute to the team culture. I always try to move according to the client’s needs. My assignments aren’t about me, but about the client and how I can best support them.
Can you share a recent example of a client engagement where you had to think outside the box to find a creative solution to a problem?
While as a Juno lawyer I probably won’t have institutional knowledge, I can provide “fresh eyes” and try to identify opportunities for legal teams to better support their organisations in achieving their strategic goals. I enjoy doing “Legal Ops” type of work and, if possible and appropriate, I try to help my colleagues to work more efficiently. For example, I’ve helped clients with the development of contract policies and processes which I like to think will help them to more efficiently and consistently manage risks.
What do you feel contributes to a great Juno client engagement for you and for the client?
A good induction is always helpful, as it allows me to understand the client’s priorities, who is who in the organisation, how decisions are made, etc. I also value having regular catchups to align on priorities and receive feedback. But ultimately it all comes down to people and I’ve met some really lovely people who I like to think I helped and from whom I have certainly learnt.
Ngā mihi to Luana D'Appollonio, for sharing her Juno experience with our community.
