Iain has back filled a vacancy at KCDC for an extended period of time, due to uncertainties arising out of the Covid lockdown. Iain very quickly established himself as a valuable member of the small in-house legal team and despite not having direct local government experience, he quickly gained the confidence of a wide range of internal clients. This is testament to the common sense pragmatic advice provided by Iain.

Wendy continues to be an absolute rockstar! She has excellent technical ability, agility, professionalism and overall smarts. She dealt with a broad range of work in a calm manner and helped move things along quickly and covered a large amount of work. Juno has good people with great experience and the ability to fit in.

Wendy joined our legal team as an interim Head of Legal, and did a great job of leading the team, advising the business and assisting with corporate M&A throughout that time. Wendy provided very client-focused advice, and got up to speed with our industry and its needs very quickly. Wendy is not only very organised and structured with her thinking, she also has a very calm head and lovely manner.

Marissa is a real asset to our team here at Consumer NZ. She can get to the crux of an issue quickly and brings a range of experiences to bear on problems. She was particularly helpful in leading a project to amalgamate a number of disparate privacy policies into one, simple to read and user friendly product.

Iain’s role in the team was to provide additional legal support. During his time, Iain led a number of key matters for us and provided wise counsel in relation to other, more operational matters. In particular, I appreciated Iain’s exceptional advocacy skills and his ability to create compelling arguments. Iain was instrumental in us obtaining a successful outcome to an Ombudsman’s investigation into our refusal to release research information under the OIA. Iain also took a lead role in the sector’s response to the Education (Pastoral Care of Domestic Tertiary Students)

To say Jeremy is a safe pair of hands is an understatement. Jeremy came to EA to cover parental leave. He helped us by taking on a newly created interim manager role in our compliance (enforcement) team, bringing together a team of investigators. Jeremy put in place new processes and redesigned the way the team operated to streamline and modernise the function, while also keeping the team happy and engaged. He also dealt with some high profile and challenging cases. Nothing seems to phase Jeremy; he’s extremely competent, reliable and fits in really well in any team.

Nikki fitted in extremely well and was able to teach and learn and be a support as well as a very capable lawyer. She helped solve a particularly complex and difficult OIA/Privacy issue that had become vexatious and stressful– Nikki came in and organised the situation into a mini project and used her people skills/legal analysis and judgment in a way that took a lot of the heat out of it. We were able to move forward in a way that had been difficult before Nikki’s guidance and professionalism.
